JUNIOR BISON CLUB SEASON AND TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
As one of the Premier and most successful clubs in Canada the Junior Bison Volleyball Club presents opportunities for athletes of all levels to develop themselves to the best of their abilities. Whether you are an athlete who is just stepping on the court for the first time or an athlete looking to progress to the post-high school experience, our club guarantees the training experience that will get you there.
The Junior Bison Volleyball Club is designed to develop male & female volleyball players ages 12-18 in their pursuit of improvement of skills, play and understanding of the game of volleyball.
All teams are considered both developmental and competitive. Training is designed to enhance each athlete’s ability within their appropriate developmental range. All players are trained with their individual capabilities in consideration and will be exposed to training that ensures they improve in various volleyball specific skills.
What is the Difference between the Junior Bison Program and Other Clubs?
The Junior Bison Program is a Professional Club run through the University of Manitoba with multiple full time, professional staff. As such, the club has established programs offering elite coaching and training since 2009. Our club is led by University of Manitoba Women’s Volleyball Head Coach, Ken Bentley along with his University assistant coaching staff all of whom are involved at every level of the club. The program focuses on educating, mentoring and training coaches to ensure a consistent system of training and philosophy is delivered throughout the entire club.
Our club is not about putting a team together to play at Nationals. Each aspect is carefully planned. No team is created without confirming that structure, organization and implementation will take place to ensure a successful season. This, of course means making the proper selection of players and coaches and includes the appropriate training of both athletes and coaches.
Unlike the structure of many other clubs in Winnipeg, the Junior Bison Volleyball club has a full time, dedicated staff of administrators and coaches. All practice times, facilities, apparel, competition and travel are arranged through the University and administered by Junior Bison Coordinator Lisa Peters. This makes a parent’s and coaches job much easier. Because the Junior Bison Volleyball Club is led by the University Coaches, our training model is congruent with the development of all athletes from introduction to the game thru to the University Level.
Also, unlike many other clubs we have our own training and competition facilities, including multiple gymnasiums and a state of the art strength and conditioning facility at the University of Manitoba Active Living Centre. All of our team’s train multiple times a week on court as well as off-court and as a club we also have Sport Psychologists and Nutritionists available for head coaches to line up with their teams as needed or wanted.
For the 2020 club season the Junior Bison Volleyball Club plans to field the following teams:
